PSC Applauds DoD Implementation Plan for the National Defense Industrial Strategy
Arlington, Va. (October 29, 2024) -- The Professional Services Council (PSC) applauds this morning's release of the Department of Defense (DoD) Implementation Plan for the National Defense Industrial Strategy (NDIS). As PSC noted when the NDIS was released last January, implementation is “critical to realizing the Department’s vision.”
The Implementation Plan focuses on the four NDIS priorities: supply chain resilience, workforce, acquisition flexibility, and economic deterrence. It lays out actions across a set of initiatives that include the U.S. industrial base, as well as allies and partners around the world. The Plan helps to realize the strategy’s stated vision: “to coordinate and build a modern defense industrial ecosystem.”
“The NDIS Implementation Plan includes both near-term and longer-term actions. It undertakes to integrate lessons learned from ongoing conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine, with evolving needs in other theaters,” said PSC President and CEO David Berteau. “In addition, the plan seeks to build on current and programmed capabilities while incorporating emerging technologies and talent that will enable the U.S. to maintain its strategic advantages into the future.”
“The industrial base on which national security depends is more than manufacturing weapon systems,” Berteau added. “PSC looks forward to continuing collaboration with the Department as the work under this plan moves forward. In particular, we will work with DoD to focus on results, not just up-front investment, in sustainment, support, logistics, and services as well as production and manufacturing.”
