FROM THE FIELD:

Escape Room Enhances Warrior Performance
Magellan Federal Creatively Helps the Army Build Skills to Perform Under Pressure

July 2024

From May 20–23, 2024, units at The National Training Center and Fort Irwin competed against one another for the coveted Commanders Cup at the annual Desert Warrior Week (#DWW24) competition. Army participants engaged in various events, including combatives, team sports, and skill challenges.

For #DWW24, Magellan Federal Performance Experts (PE) prepared a unique activity for the soldiers to leverage critical thinking skills and teamwork under pressure. The Performance Experts engineered a highly successful Escape Room challenging soldiers to use math, science, teamwork, communication, and attention to detail to solve puzzles and move on to the next room. These are skills our human performance coaches deliver daily to the Army as part of service delivery on the Army Resilience Directorate Training Support Program.

Over three days, Magellan Federal Performance Experts guided nine teams and 91 participants through the challenging series of clues spread out among three separate rooms. Military participants ranged from Junior Enlisted to Command Sergeant Major and Colonel (O-6). The teams drew upon their skills learned from performance coaching sessions to solve the puzzles and “escape.” Feedback from all participants and the Army client was overwhelmingly positive, including requests for additional Magellan Federal-designed Escape Room events in the future.

When it comes to human performance coaching, Magellan Federal continues to lead and innovate. During the past 5 years, we have successfully certified more than 22,000 Master Resilience Trainers and have delivered education and training to more than 3 million within the Army population, face-to-face and virtually. This event is a great example of how our Performance Experts are constantly innovating to prepare the defenders of our Nation to perform at their fullest potential, regardless of the circumstances.
